The first time she'd held her hand, it had been that hand and Magna had flinched, flushing with anger at herself a second later. Miko had pretended not to notice, had kept it there, loose enough for her to slip out of, but firm another to be reassuring, her thumb starting up a pattern against skin, running over those dots like they were little more than freckles. And eventually Magna had settled into it, trying hard not to think about how long it had been since anyone had dared to reach out in such a way, and how much longer it had been since she'd let them.

"I used to drive around my grandparents' farm all the time as a kid, can't be too much harder than that," Magna had said with a shrug, failing to be bothered.
The lawyer in Yumiko had jerked back at this information and the legality of it.
But she'd ultimately acquiesced - negotiating with her more rational inner voice that, at this point, fatigued and blurry-eyed, she was more likely to crash her car than Magna.
It had taken her no time at all to come to regret that decision.

They were both seated atop the rig, relaxing with conversation and a nightcap, watching as the rest of their group engaged in various activities down below; namely, getting a fire started.
'You need to tell Magna how you feel,' Connie signed.
A terrible idea, really.
'You're suggesting I talk to Magna about feelings? Magna? Our Magna?' She snorted, looking off into the distance. "God, she'd run for the hills."
It wasn't an exaggeration. Some days, she was still surprised Magna hadn't done so already."

Yumiko cut to the chase. “What did Daryl say?”
“Maybe I was the one who said something.”
“Maybe,” Yumiko granted. “But you’re not trying to melt that knife with the power of your gaze because of something you said.”
Magna hardened her jaw, remained silent.
She might just have to table this as one of those things that her girlfriend refused to talk about and try to do damage control with what little information she did have. If it failed, she could seek out Kelly later and ask for details on what went down.
