Summary

Jiang Cheng reacted on instinct. He wasn’t really aware that he’d moved, but he was glad to find himself crouched and pressed sideways against the far wall of his room, his arms high to protect his head. That tone. He knew that tone. Nothing good ever came from it. Pain was all that ever came from it. Zidian was vicious, and his mother was an accomplished cultivator with the strength to prove it. But Nie Mingjue was a mountain. He was strong. Stronger than Jiang Cheng could even imagine. If Nie Mingjue hit him, if he used all that strength to hit him, Jiang Cheng wasn’t sure he’d survive.

Not that he told Jiang Cheng this before he left. Imagine Jiang Cheng's surprise when Nie Mingjue returns to the apartment after having dropped Nie Huaisang off at the airport with no intention to leave anytime soon.
