Summary
Zemo stopped in his tracks for just a heartbeat as Bucky hit the ground, the pause his only acknowledgement before he was starting to walk away, coat billowing as a gust of frigid wind swept up the street. If he thought he was gonna bail on them now he had another thing coming. Bucky was moving to intercept him before he could take more than a half-dozen steps, barrelling into him and grabbing his wrist, slamming him bodily up against the stone wall and meeting his grunt of discomfort as the air was knocked from his lungs with a snarl.
‘Where the hell do you think you’re going?’
Zemo looked up at him with a calculating gaze, that infuriating smirk curving the edges of a mouth that had been driving him to distraction with frustrating regularity since all this had begun. Bucky’s blood stirred, and he wanted to scream.

Summary
‘He blew up the UN.’
Sam’s eyebrows were in his hairline, mouth an irritated slash, enough frustration in his tone to make it sound like he was speaking to a stubborn child. As though Bucky was refusing to see Zemo’s sins. Bucky ran a hand through his hair, fought the temptation to claw at his scalp. He got Sam’s disbelief, his concern, but it didn’t change anything. Zemo had let him in that night, had let him see a glimpse of what lay beneath his substantial armour, things that maybe no one else would ever get to see. Bucky knew as they’d fallen asleep together, wrapped up and close, safe, that he’d never be able to explain this fully to another soul. It wasn’t that he didn’t see Zemo’s sins, it was that he saw more than that.

Summary
He gathered his weapons from where he’d left them on the dining table and stopped in the hall to collect his luggage before turning back to glance through the doorway, watched for a moment as Oeznik tidied up their few things in the kitchen.
Home.
A remarkable return from the dark place he’d been lost in.
‘I’m grateful to be back too, my friend.’
---
Zemo waits, and remembers. A lifetime of love and bright things and brutality, a tapestry of moments that have led him here, to an apartment in Warsaw, to holding his breath while his heart reaches for a man who might’ve been guiding him home for years without him realising.
