Summary
The first time it happens, Zhou ZIshu has wandered down to the cafe on the bottom floor of his building again. The Four Seasons dessert and coffee shop is exactly the kind of place he usually hates - too trendy, drinks overpriced, and filled with rich housewives with nothing better to do than waste their days drinking burnt espresso. Not that Zhou ZIshu isn’t rich or wasting his day, but at least he has the good sense not to dress like it. Unfortunately, Four Seasons also serves the best pastries he’s found in the city, so he usually ends up here several mornings each week.
Sometimes soulmates come at you fast.

Summary
He's just about to slip out of the general's study when the door is thrown open and a hard body collides with his. Zhou Zishu looks up to see dark eyes staring down at him from a pale visage. His hand is halfway to the knife hidden at his hip before he remembers that the face he's wearing is not his own, and that prospective brides tend not to carry weapons - or skulk around their future husband's home in the dead of night. Hmm, perhaps he'll actually need to get rid of this fellow.

Summary
Zhang Yusen wishes he could convince the young man to stay with his own family until they can find a better place for him; he also knows he'd never listen. But he tries anyway, telling him that the house and that Wood is cursed. Things not quite human live in the shadows of those trees.
As expected, Zhou Zishu merely shrugs. "That's convenient - I won't be the only cursed thing around."

It's all a game to him, so no matter how much Zhou Zishu may want it to be different, no matter how many moments of bone-deep understanding he thinks they've shared - nope, not going there. Zhou Zishu avoids his own thoughts by downing the entire cup of bitter wine in one continuous gulp. Summary
Shit. The two thugs are still there, pushing through the dancers and heading directly for her. Without much more thought, Zhou Zishu turns to the first person within arm's reach. The woman blinking down at Zhou Zishu is a head taller than herself, wearing a clingy red dress and matching lipstick that's starting to flake. She's too skinny for Zhou Zishu’s taste, her push up bra trying and failing to give her the illusion of cleavage, and her long fingers are wrapped around a violently pink cocktail.
Zhou Zishu makes her observations in three seconds and decides she'll do.

Summary
Wen Kexing watches the arrivals gate and tries to resist the urge to reread the text message from this morning for the hundredth time since it had woken her the pre-dawn hours of the morning. She’d always been a light sleeper - had gotten better for a time, and then abruptly and considerably worse - and it had been enough to jolt her out of her nightmares. It’s pointless though; she doesn’t need to unlock her phone as the words are burned into her mind.
Hey. Pick me up at the airport. 10:00am today.

Summary
It’s not like Zhou Zishu is in love with her annoying upstairs neighbor - and self declared best friend - who has somehow wormed her way into her life. The fact that she spends most of her time around the woman, both as a human and as a cat, indicates nothing about how much she actually likes Wen Kexing. Free food is free food; she’s not going to say no to someone showing up with a home-cooked meal every night. If Zhou Zishu hangs out on the landing in front of Wen Kexing’s apartment, it’s merely because she always has the best table scraps that she’ll put out in a little bowl by the door. It’s nobody else’s business. Just as it’s no one else’s business if she winds around Wen Kexing’s legs every time she comes outside to sit on the fire escape and drink wine.
