Summary
It was all supposed to be an effing joke. Something they’d talked about to kill a bit of downtime, an exercise in ‘could never happen’ but a way to plan out how things could have gone better without going mad because it could never actually happen.
Q realized his vision was beginning to fade out at the edges and let out a slightly hysterical laugh which snapped him enough out of his panic to realize he was firstly, about to have an effing panic attack and secondly, in shock.
“Shit,” he muttered, running a hand over his face before setting his jaw, removing his glasses, and putting his head between his knees. Undignified?
So bloody what? He was sixteen, for Christ’s sake! He defied anyone not to panic a bit at losing over half of their lives after effing sneezing.

Summary
Room after room he found no sign of intrusion, nothing out of place, but a noise from the stairs had him warily circling around to the official entrance and down those stairs, virtually never used, to reenter the front door and attempt to circle around to catch whoever was in their home unawares.
There was no one visible, but his straining ears picked up something in Daniel’s room.
Which was empty, as was the attached bathroom and the closets involved with both, and those in the hall, too—
Now there was something happening in Alec’s basement flat.
With a silent snarl of frustration 007 went about clearing Alec’s flat and, when he found nothing but heard something from the main room of the ground-floor flat he very nearly cursed aloud.

Summary
Everyone seemed to put so much emphasis on words as part of communication but most of their important things were said in small movements.
Or…
He’d always presumed so.
It had been one of those missions that on paper had gone brilliantly, better than could be hoped but in actuality had hit a few of those buttons he hadn’t known he had and left him fighting new demons while those long-conquered perked their heads in interest, hoping he’d loose his hold on them, too, whilst distracted.
If he’d been able to wrap himself around Luke when he arrived he’d have been fine, that’s all this was.
Simple bad timing.

Summary
“Do you believe in time travel?”
That was from absolutely nowhere.
Not that James was a stranger to following up any random thought to distract himself in stressful situations; he didn’t ask. They’d done this a few times too many over the years; but he sure as hell needed the distraction too. “I’ve read about those…” he dove back through some of the most useless information he’d read about for the sake of conversation with a mark and found the right name, “tachyon particles. Affecting the past in the present or something,” he shook his head. He’d had a better understanding at the time, but that had been quite a while ago. He thought the newer theories considered them purely hypothetical nonsense, besides. “Presuming you don’t mean the standard ‘we’re farther through time now than five minutes ago’ sort of time travel.”
“More the Back to the Future sort,” Alec agreed.

Summary
“James! Alec,” Major Boothroyd—semi-retired—greeted them with a tired and strained smile which quickly faded. “Do something, please.”
“What sort of something?” James asked blankly.
“Q is…”
That was enough—Alec had turned on his heel and James nodded at the old man. “We’ll figure something out.”
As soon as they knew what was going on.
Q-branch…
Was insane, apparently.
While many had suspected it over the years it was clearly full-blown insanity now.
“Agent Trevelyan! Agent Bond!” Miss Morgan’s face on seeing them went from stressed and nearly to crying to a sort of relieved hope that was rather pathetically transparent. “Thank god, do something.”

Summary
The sheer bloody arrogance.
…That had been him, a lifetime ago. Cocky and sure and confident of ability with no idea of the realities of the aftermath.
He’s known better for a long time, now, only took seeing bits of brain and bone flowing towards him like boats in eddies of blood to understand. Still.
Yes.
Still.
Sometimes the monster that is 006 and the man that is Alec have to have a bit of a tussle.

“006.”
“Yes, R?”
“You brought a kitten with an explosives-rigged collar not only into MI6’s executive offices but on a plane—with all of the pressure changes that involves—in your pocket?”
The outrage was beautiful.

Summary
“Trevelyan?”
Alec glanced up sharply with the shock of not noticing Smithers’ approach jolting through his limbs. “Smithy?”
“Something wrong?”
“Probably not. Just… missed a letter I expected.” He tried to dismiss it.
Tried. Because he and Luke had never actually managed a vacation together before. With James, sure, but not alone.
Not that this trip was very ‘alone’, all told, but he didn’t want to let his paranoid agent brain kick in for no reason. There was probably a perfectly justifiable explanation for the letter being late. Even if this was two days later than any of the others had ever been.
In over twenty-five years of receiving them.
Nothing to worry about at all.

Summary
Awareness of the world began to seep in despite his best efforts. Neck aching, head protesting…
He tried to ignore it for just a few more minutes of not dealing with the real world.
“007.”
He should have known better. He’d probably fallen asleep in Q’s office again. The chair was comfortable for about an hour before its sadistic side came out to torture the unwary.
Coffee-scented steam was wafted under his nose, the mug remaining there as his hand shot up to claim the offering.
“Identify.”
Bond didn’t bother to open his eyes. “A radio and a gun. It’s not exactly Christmas, is it?”
“Confirmed. Counter?”
“The weight disparity between the contents of bay seven before and after I left post helicopter hitting a bridge.”
“Roughly one thousand, five hundred and thirty-eight kilograms,” Q said dryly, sounding slightly exasperated. “Why ask me a question you wouldn’t know the answer to yourself as reassurance that I’m who I’m purporting to be?”
“The snark is unmistakable, Quartermaster,” Bond drawled, grinning and opening his eyes while bringing the coffee up. It froze before he could tip it to drink.
“Yeah, about that,” Q said—except it wasn’t Q.

Summary
M closed her eyes in a cold stone building, doing so with the knowledge that she would never open them again.
A hand on her shoulder made her realize she’d lost what little warmth she’d had from Bond’s damp hold on her and was on her feet.
“Thought on your sins, yet?”
She spun around to see a dead man.
Well.
That rather made sense.
“Trevelyan.”
He grinned.
It was a wicked grin, full of gallows and very little humor.
