Summary
And at that, there was a sudden spike of tension in the room – mostly from herself and Evna’an, with the expected show of awareness from her mother and a reassuring, yet saddening one from the otherwise-bright-light that was Cianthri. The renewal of grim awareness as a shared, dark hypothetical worsened by measure, the maudlin mix of despair at facts beyond one’s control, hatred that seethed and simmered with no outlet, and the sometimes-hypocritical frustration at the risks taken by others even when feelings of security were little more than an illusion. The Humans, of course, remained oblivious to all this, and Qyzen and T7 were still difficult to read, but Aric had at least caught on, and by a similar measure, so had Narlock.
“You should have identified yourself earlier, ma’am,” Per’severa spoke almost-evenly, angered but not quite at the ambassador. “We could’ve better ensured your safety.”
That time four people with better things to care about than the Republic met on the Esseles, and that time four future traitors to the Empire met on the Black Talon.Series

Summary
Tired souls beyond hope saw the hand on the saber, or the finger on the trigger, or the draw of a knife, and felt the galaxy shift. “I see you,” said the eyes, or the visor, or the turn of a helmet. “I know you, as one I have loved all my life.” It was wrong. It was right. She was meant to walk away, to be a conqueror, a hero, to fight for glory, for fortune, a destiny in a galaxy that still believed in those things. But again and again, her light was here, in the dark, saying “I’m not leaving you,” as if there was no power, no calling, that could be greater.
