Description:

More than that, he felt their love, like a bottomless lake, as infinite as the sky. He felt their grief that was an echo of his, and their joy to have him with them, and the longing for Shenme that was an echo of his.

Notes:
  • To be more formal, daemons are often referred to with the same surname as their human. However, they do not have courtesy names and are most often simply referred to by the name they choose when they settle. For cultivators, there is a formal naming "ceremony" that coincides with the awarding of a spiritual sword.

  • Daemons are connected to golden cores. It is obviously not required to have a golden core to have a daemon, but some part of their soul is attached so a melted core would cause (almost) irreparable damage to the bond between human and daemon

  • Jiang Fengmian & Yu Ziyuan: Jiang Fengmian's daemon is an Asian small-clawed otter and Yu Ziyuan's daemon is a Chinese alligator.
Wei Wuxian: Shénme (什么; anything) is an Asiatic Golden Cat. Wei Wuxian and Shenme have a slightly longer bond than usual.
Wen Ning: Bānzhǐ (扳指) refers to an ornamental thumb ring worn by archers to protect the right thumb when drawing a bowstring. She is a red-billed blue magpie.
Wen Qing: Shíjiàn (实践; living up to a promise). A common mock viper with a surprisingly deep voice.
Jiang Cheng: Chéngshì (成事; to accomplish the objective/to succeed). Chéngshì (乘势) can also mean "to seize the opportunity". She is a grey wolf.
Jiang Yanli: Tóngxíng (同行; to journey together) was named in reference to the meaning of Jiang Yanli's own name ("to dislike separation"). He is a moose because those monsters apparently exist in China.
Lan Wangji': Xiányǎ (娴雅, refined, graceful, serene), a white-bellied heron.
Lan Sizhui's daemon: Yīnyīn (殷殷, earnest/ardent (hope etc), a mountain hawk-eagle.
Mo Xuanyu's daemon: she was sacrificed during the sacrificial ritual to bring Wei Wuxian back. Wei Wuxian guessed that she was a small daemon that could hide in his robes, as when he showed up without one there was no immediate reaction. He later learns that she took on the form of some kind of viper.
Nie Huaisang: Jiānjué (坚决; firm, resolute, determined), a red cat-bear.
Jin Guangyao: As Meng Yao, his daemon was called Pàxiū (怕羞; coy, shy, bashful). After being recognized, he was called Dǎxià (打下; to conquer, to shoot down (a bird)). He is a golden snub-nosed monkey.
Nie Zonghui: Léitíng (雷霆; sound of thunder), a black (melanistic) grey wolf.
