Summary

“I don’t like being here, either.” He whispered. Steve understood that too.
From what Owens had managed to find, he’d come to the conclusion that this laboratory was the hospital that Steve had spent part of his childhood in. Since finding out, the place always gave him the heebie jeebies.
Will had already admitted that sometimes he could feel how close he was to the upside down, that he knew the gate was right below him.

Summary

He hadn’t asked his parents about it all. They’d stayed for one night, told him to get a job before they disowned him, and left again. Steve had convinced himself it was easier to leave it, pretend he’d never found out, than satisfy the curiosity.

Steve could hear the search party. They’d started up near the Byers house the day after Will was reported missing, slowly expanding out further and further into the woods. Their shouting—their begging—melded into white noise beneath the gentle susurrus of wind among the branches. Steve wondered if Will could hear them, wherever he was. Were he hiding in the hollow of a fallen tree or locked in someone's basement, maybe he could hear the hundreds of voices shouting his name and know that, no matter what, someone was searching for him.
