Summary
People donated all types of plants to the Botanic Garden. Or they tried to. A family member died. They were moving out of the city. They didn’t have the green thumb they thought they would. Most of the time, the donations were offered in good faith. Most of the time, the Garden ended up declining the offer. Outside plants had to be quarantined, observed for disease and pests—a lot of work for a bunch of house plants the Garden already had in spades. Adam put on a placid smile, the one he was always told came off as detached. Turning from Blue to Ronan, he said, “We appreciate the thought, but small collections—”
He stopped when Ronan showed him a photo on his phone, and, voice low and gravelly and containing a challenge, Ronan said, “I wouldn’t call it a small collection.”

Summary
Adam had been invited to the Barns to help Ronan repot plants he’d bought under Adam’s guidance the previous weekend, but they both knew there was more to Adam’s visit. If repotting was all they were going to do, Adam could have arrived Saturday morning, but Ronan had told him to come Friday evening, offered to make dinner, asked Adam to get wine. That wasn’t what someone requested if working in the conservatory behind the farmhouse was all he had in mind.
They were two grown men who liked one another very much, and Adam would be damned if they didn’t end the night horizontal on a soft, flat surface, probably one meant for sleeping but put to use for something else.
