Summary
He opened and closed his mouth several times before he managed to get his voice to work. “You killed him,” he said shakily, words coming out far weaker than he would’ve liked.
Hawks’ hands paused for a brief moment before he continued his work. “It was you or him,” he responded matter-of-factly.
“What?” Touya was struggling to understand what had just transpired within the last two minutes, mind reeling from the sudden change of atmosphere and the fact that he’d just watched his consort murder someone.
or,
When Touya was informed of his betrothal to a harpy from the court of some backwater country, it was a clear sign that his father no longer favored him to inherit the throne. That was about as bad as it could get, as the crown prince. At least, that's what he thought.

Keigo was an investment, in her eyes. A trophy, a decoration, a tool, yes, but an investment nonetheless.
A very pretty, very valuable investment.

Summary
Keigo had never been fully in control of his fate.
It was a simple fact of life, as clear to him as the sky was blue or the mountain caps were white.
While he couldn’t control it, he could still manipulate it. Whether he did that through a few sugary words to an old lord or by offering a young countess a sultry smile, he grabbed as many of the threads as he could and wove them to his will. He could keep himself alive for a while longer, and if the cost of that was a few hands that lingered on his waist or brushed through his wings, that was fine.
If leading on countless suitors and suitresses was what it took to lay alone in bed a while longer, well, he could blush and offer a weak, shy smile as they were introduced.
