“Back then…did you ever believe in me?”
That was…much harder to answer.
How could he say that he thought he was being righteous, obeying the orthodoxy? How could he condense the complexity of believing in a person against their own upbringing down to a ‘yes’ or ‘no’?He parted his lips to say something, but Wei Ying had already sighed, and turned away.
Too late. Again. Too late.
What was the point of 16 years of mourning, 16 years of reflection, if he was going to be ‘too late’ again?Follow-up piece to New Perspective. Can stand alone, but reading the previous fic is highly recommended for some of the points that will be raised.

“We should move, Wei Ying.” Lan Zhan stood, the last vestiges of sunlight disappearing over the horizon. The cold was settling in, night has fallen, they had dallied along the road long enough.
And Wei Ying still couldn’t move.
“Ah – hahaha, are you sure, Lan Zhan?” Practice was the only reason why Wei Ying was able to avoid wincing as he shifted position. “We can stay a bit longer – the town isn’t that far off.”
But Wei Ying had forgotten, this Lan Zhan was different. This Lan Zhan was not the same one that Wei Ying met all those years ago. This Lan Zhan knows him.
“Wei Ying,” he knelt down, that damned, beautiful face pinning him in place. “What’s wrong? Are you in pain?”
Or: Without the mystery of the sword spirit and the plots of Jin Guangyao to keep them distracted, Wei Ying struggles with keeping his other secrets from Lan Zhan.
Losing his golden core was only the tip of the iceberg.

They moved to post the calligraphy along the walls of the Jingshi, and Sizhui watched as his father traced the characters of his name with his fingers, a distant look in his eyes.
“A-die?” “Mn?” “What was my baba like?”'
“Your baba,” A-die stroked his hand, his eyes sparkling. A good memory, then, “was someone who always fought for what is right. Who didn’t care about what people thought of him, who didn’t care about what was proper, as long as he saved lives and brought justice.”
Whoever his baba was, Sizhui was proud to be his son. “Oh, so he’s just like A-die!”
His a-die inhaled sharply, and bent down to hug him. “No, A-Yuan.” He squeezed tightly, “I am still working to be more like your baba.”A look at Lan Sizhui growing up as the son of Lan Wangji, his journey through the events of CQL, and the far-reaching effects of Hanguang-Jun to their generation of Lan disciples.
