Summary
On the ancient, rusted-out wreck of the small spacecraft below the dune, several desiccated corpses had been strung up by their ankles—probably by the Bad Lads or some other local gang—and were being picked at by an assortment of Worms and buzzards. Next to them, however, were two men who were still very much alive, tied up back-to-back and dangling upside down, slowly turning in circles as the pair wriggled and squirmed in their bonds.
They weren’t trying to escape, though. They appeared to be much more focused on trying—and failing—to punch each other’s lights out.
“I’m not buying it,” Meryl muttered.
Roberto scoffed. “They sure act like a pair of brothers. Look like it, too.”

Or, in another timeline, Knives and Vash were never driven apart, and instead became Gunsmoke's most wanted pair of twins. Was it for the better? No one knows for sure, but for the Bernardelli Insurance Society, probably not.

Summary
Parting ways doesn’t necessarily mean you stop loving each other. Still, there’s a certain point where you have to acknowledge that what you had together is broken and might never be fixed, and you have to move on.
Knives knows this far too well. Unfortunately, his stupid fucking subconscious won’t get with the program.
