Summary
San had heard a saying, before. Something about being soft enough to hold a bird in your hands and not hurt it, but steady enough to keep it so it didn’t fly away. He didn’t want to be rough, but that was kind of what he’d ended up being, for a while.
He could lie and say he didn’t know what changed it. What had turned his working hands into softer, kinder ones. What had softened him into something malleable enough to be loved. What allowed him to keep that little bird, sitting happily in his palm, deciding on its own that that was where it wanted to stay. That was where it felt safest, most loved.
He’d never managed to keep hold of something so fleeting before.

After about three meetings in one week that Wooyoung ‘didn’t have to go to’, he started actually getting suspicious. He was confused at first, but it was just curiosity. What on earth could San be doing that Wooyoung couldn’t witness? If it was just… permit stuff, why couldn’t he come? He half debated waiting in the damn truck to force San to take him.
And after about two weeks of suspicious nighttime outings, Wooyoung got anxious. The random texts and calls San kept getting before his nights out, those just made it worse. The first couple of times Wooyoung had ignored it- but San hardly used his phone, so why was it always on him, now? Why was he so quick to snatch it off the table when it went off, and Wooyoung was there? Why were all his calls hushed and taken across the entire backyard, where Wooyoung couldn’t hear unless he followed? The calls were frequent- the texts were daily, at this point. Who the hell was he talking to?
And then, he met her.

"This ain't even a costume." San said with a grumble, making his dislike for his costume known for probably the sixth time just since they'd gotten in the truck.
"It is! Stop whining, you said you liked mine." Wooyoung brushed off his concerns, making his way in front of him to fluff up the crimson red cape he was wearing. The cape wasn't even that long, cutting off just above his ass, where the ruffles of his cheap red riding hood dress were most visible.
"Yeah, yours is fuckin' cute." San had found it most difficult to keep his hands off the blue gingham Wooyoung was sporting, but he managed, somehow,
"We needed to match. And you look handsome!" Wooyoung giggled, hardly convincing anybody with that tone, especially not the disgruntled man that was following along behind him.
"A hairy stripper is what I look like."
