Summary
He’s barely given a moment to rest before there’s a light in Arthur’s eyes, and Merlin finds himself with the tip of a thumb in his mouth. At first, Merlin wants to recoil at the waxy, acrid taste of the treatment used on the glove, but then Arthur presses the flat of his thumb against Merlin’s tongue, and his lips form a natural suction around it, and he then finds himself swallowing the taste. He watches as Arthur’s irises disappear like day into night, a cerulean sky swallowed by obsidian shadow.

The festivities are in full swing, but the king and newly-named court sorcerer find other things to fill their time. Of course, those ‘other things’ should probably occur only in the bedroom, but behind some drapes while still in the banquet hall isn’t that awful of a place either. Arthur’s not sure where his lover gets this sudden strength from — he could swear Merlin was a right lout with twigs for arms pretty much all the time, but when they’re like this, Merlin can still his hips easier than anything, keeping Arthur pressed into his seat. It doesn’t make sense, but, Arthur supposes, like most things concerning his lover, nothing ever does.

Arthur presses a kiss to the bite, licks at the blood that’s spilt, tongue wet and warm on his skin. Merlin relaxes at the touch, despite his heart continuing to pound. “It’ll be alright,” Arthur soothes, voice little more than a whisper.
But what he doesn’t know — what Merlin knows — and he knows — is that there haven’t been any witches; there aren’t any spurned lovers. He slides his hand from Arthur’s, letting his thumb press into the prince’s wrist. Perhaps it was inspired by his own feelings, but Merlin knows — this was his magic’s work, and his magic’s work alone.
