He doesn't turn around. He knows she won't be there. She's already gone off to the bedroom to wait. Tommy lets out a tight breath, his body vibrating with anticipation, and gets his gear off fast.

“Kisha? I just wanted to let you know the tile is all done.” He says loudly through the door.
“Come on it, Joel.” He hears her yell from the other side.
When he opens the door, he sees Kisha squatting in front of a file cabinet sticking papers into a hanging file. She shoves the drawer closed and stands up. He can't help but notice how good her ass looks in her tight jeans as she does. He also can’t help noticing how her button-down pink plaid shirt hugs her trim waist and full bust when she reaches up to grab a folder from the top of the cabinet and drops it onto her desk. She's a petite woman, but her body is all curves, round and luscious. Joel thinks she looks mighty fine for a woman in her early 40s, better even than some women he’s seen in their 20s.
“God, my neck is killin’ me. All this paperwork has got me hunchin’ over my desk too much. I’m getting a knot.” she reaches back with one hand to pull her long brown braids that fall almost to her mid back to one side so she can rub her neck with her other hand.
Without thinking about it, Joel moves up behind her and says in a low, rough voice, “I can help you with that if you'd like?”

His mouth snaps shut, and he swallows hard, adams apple bobbing up and down as he tilts the picture and his head at the same time.

It streaks down his glossy black strands and across his broad shoulders, down his muscular back and chest, little droplets catching in the hairs on his tummy.
He raises his hands, pushes the excess water out of his hair, and shakes his head a little to dislodge the remaining drops. Then he turns and smiles at Maria, and she feels like she’s about to melt right into the cracks between the porch boards.
“Still there, darlin'?" His mustache twitches as a knowing smile creeps across his lips.
“House now.” She pants, her eyes burning into him.

He looks down at the two tiny heads resting against his skin. Little fists balled up tight, fingernails translucent, almost paper thin. Legs and arms are tucked close to their bodies, wrinkled skin delicate and soft. Sarah’s a rich golden brown, and Ellie’s the palest peach. Sarah’s hair is a honey-gold hue that floats in wispy curls like a cloud around her head. Ellie’s brown hair is light, downy, and barely there. Both girls are facing inward toward each other, their tiny bow lips squished into pouts from how their cheeks are resting on him. Joel watches as their hands bump against each other in their sleep and suddenly open, tiny fingers stretching, searching until they find one another, and then they are clasping, interlocking until they’re holding hands.
Joel feels his heart skip and a warmth pool in his chest.
IE: Sarah and Ellie are both Premature babies in the same NICU. Joel and Naomi (His Wife) end up fostering Ellie when she has nowhere to go home.

The man has dark brown skin, a lean frame, and a bald head. A pair of black glasses perch on his nose, and he’s dressed like an English professor in tan slacks and a red sweater. The boy looks maybe three or four years old, has the same dark skin tone as the man, and has short, soft curls floating around his head. He’s dressed in a pair of firetruck-patterned footie pajamas.
“Ah, pardon me, somethin’ I can help you with?” Tommy asks, his brow lifting in surprise.
“Yes, I’d very much like to talk to my wife.” The man says, his eyes tracking over Tommy’s bare chest and jeans that hang low off his hips.
“Excuse me? I think you’ve got the wrong…”
“I’m not your anything anymore, and this is not okay.” Maria comes out from behind Tommy, now fully dressed, but she’s still got his shirt on. She plants herself between Tommy and the man at the door.

Tess turns her head and clicks her tongue, buying time while she thinks on the small white line of shiny skin just on the back of her thigh. She bites her thumb, playing through her memory, and finally shrugs, “I think it was the fence on that Malik run, the one with the wild pigs.”
Joel nods knowingly, a smile curving his lips, “Fuckin’ pigs, I think Tommy was ready to piss his pants when that one charged him.”

The gun feels heavy in her hands, her skin tight on her body, and she doesn't feel like she's a part of the world around her anymore. She walks down the road, her feet carrying her further and further from everything she’s ever known.
She can hear screaming around her, explosions, and other noises that she’s only ever heard in her nightmares, but she just keeps walking.
Sometimes, she hides in fields or behind trees, houses, and cars, anywhere she can, so the things don’t see her. The things that were once people but aren’t anymore. She walks, and she hides, and she sleeps. She vaguely recalls eating food of some kind and drinking water from sinks that still run, but if you asked her when, she wouldn’t be able to tell you.
It takes nearly a month, but she finally reaches Nashville and stops.
