Summary
Stede is fully entranced by the book he’s reading when he’s hit on the side of the head with a piece of paper, folded up to look like a swan.
He picks up the piece of paper and, unhappy to undo the work clearly put into it, unfolds it.
what r u wearing? - it says.

Summary
Being in close quarters with Stede after everything — the heartbreak and the crying and the sobbing and the throwing up from sobbing and the falling asleep sobbing and the waking up sobbing… and then the reconciliation, all of it — is actually pretty fuckin’ nice. Everything feels perfect even when it isn’t. The scarcity of food makes everything taste even better, the straw mattress is a nightmare but it feels like a dream when he’s lying next to Stede. Manual labor feels exciting — he’s fallen off the roof twice. Stede has fallen off more. Ed caught him once, and the combined weight of them and the force of the fall sprained both of Ed’s ankles.
Ed loves it, loves him.

Summary
Ed has only been engaged for a week but it’s hard to remember what life was like before. Every second is tinged with the thought that he’ll get to do it all again but with a ring on his finger. That the love he feels is not just a temporary but a forever. There’s not really any words for it, the bone deep satisfaction that floods his every day. All he can think is I and love and you and Stede and loves and me. Stede loves him so much that he wants to spend the rest of time with him. And maybe they won’t have one of those official pieces of paper, just one written in Stede’s practiced hand and signed with Ed’s frantic script, but that’s fine with Ed. He doesn’t need the word of some higher power. All he needs is this: Do you take Stede Bonnet to be your — yes, yes, yes, I do, I do, I do and on and on. Let’s skip to the kiss, shall we?

Summary
Because Stede had proposed without really intending to, there was no ring. There were rings, of course, bands of gold and silver with different jewels of different shapes embedded in them. Things Ed and Stede had picked up over time, things they took with them from before they met, and then others they picked up along the way and held on to.
But no engagement ring. Ed stares at his ring finger dejectedly.

Summary
There are a lot of things that aren’t things. Y’know? There’s, like, a blowjob. Not really a thing. Taking tea in the morning isn’t a thing. Getting a massage, having his hair washed, lying with his head in Stede’s lap. Not really things. At least not in the definition that he’s currently using. The biting is a thing.
This is maybe also a thing. (Fuck, fuck, fuck.)

Summary
Stede is wrapped up tight in a dressing gown and Ed thinks about untying it with his teeth. Then he shakes his head. Stede is upset. For some reason. Ed doesn’t really get why, thinks that the word that came out of his mouth is a non-issue. Certainly not enough to warrant a sulking Stede.
“Hiya daddio,” Ed says.
Stede turns to him with eyes that look like they’re actually in danger of coming out of his head. Ed imagines popping them back into his skull one by one.
