The twiddling of the pen between his fingers paused.
Beside each of the variously decayed and mutilated mens’ pictures were their missing person posters, showcasing their former, un-battered, faces.
His eyes met with Detective Hwang’s, which narrowed at him as if they knew.
“All some variant of blonde, facial beauty marks or freckles, especially around— Yes, furthermore, 12 out of 23 were widowed, the other 11 are divorced—
—out of 23—Adopted or orphaned…Single fathers, 19 of 23 to young daughters—”The thing was, they had both been dropped head first onto the Devil’s poker table of tragedy. The only difference was that while one of them clawed their way to the head of the table, the other bled just to mend the wood that had splintered from the impact of their fall.
A new monster was rearing its ugly head beyond the shadows of their past, threatening the security of that very table.
