Eddie shrinks in on himself. He’s being admonished in his own home, and he knows he deserves it. He knows, truly. He just can’t handle the overwhelming aches of guilt and regret, which pang louder with each disappointed loved one. Another reminder he’d surrounded himself with people who only care about Metal Munson.

He’s foolishly desperate to win back his family, people who loved him for himself. He wants to be Eddie again. His baby’s Teddy Bear.

“What-” he tries again, forcing words around the growing knot in his throat and watery eyes. He’s cried so much lately. “Why are you here?”

Max eyes him skeptically, glancing at Lucas and sharing a look Eddie can’t decipher. They make a silent decision, and she moves to stand by her husband at the door.

“Steve’s getting married this summer,” she states, like it’s nothing. Like it’s not the end of Eddie’s world.

OR: Caught up in the rock star life style, Eddie makes the biggest mistake of his life. Now, almost a year later, he works towards making amends with the loved ones he hurt along the way.

This fic (even though I'm still deeply in love with it) is on a permanent hiatus.

I know a lot of people really enjoyed this fic, and I'm so so thankful for everyone's comments. They're the only thing that kept me motivated for so long. But it was causing me a lot of stress, and I was so wracked with guilt over not writing this fic that I quit writing all together. I had to put it to the side to move forward with other fics I'm really excited about!!

Anyway, I posted this update a long time ago on my Tumblr version of this fic "A Desperate Fool". I'm fairly sure there's a lot of crossover between my readers here on ao3 and following me on Tumblr, but if my ao3 readers aren't aware, there's about three or four more chapters posted over there. You can find it linked on my pinned post.

If I do decide to ever return to this fic, I will likely repost it as an entirely separate fic from this existing series. However, if that does happen, I'll update here again in case anyone stays subscribed/interested!!
