"Maybe... just maybe..." he murmurs, tilting his head back with a smile that borders on delirious bliss.
"Maybe this is all for you," he breathes, his voice thick with reverence, "so I can have an excuse to steal you from him."
And then the pain spikes. His vision blacks out for half a second as agony rips through him. His wings snap open against his will, a violent burst of movement as the primaries morph into deadly, bladed edges. They carve into his flesh, slicing into his throat, his own weapons turned against him in Bhaal's punishment for daring to remember.
What if the whole Dead Three ploy wasn't for the Dead Three? What if a certain Bhaalspawn went through all of this to be able to steal a certain Vampire Spawn?

"We recreate our first meeting," Octavian replies, his smirk deepening. "But this time, on our terms—or rather, on your terms—not because someone thought they could trade you for wine."
At first, Astarion bristles; the memories of that night and many others like it are still a sore point. But the way Octavian phrases it—our terms, your terms—coaxes a different reaction. He replies with a smirk of his own as he tilts his head. "You mean, rewrite history?"
"Exactly," Octavian chuckles. "So, what do you say?"
Astarion laughs, his earlier boredom melting away. "You're a maniac," he teases, his smirk widening into a grin. "But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a maniac too." He leans closer, a gentle warmth spreading in his chest. "Let's do it."

All of it is wrong. So, so wrong.
It had been his and Octavian's turn to host, usually Octavian would do the cooking in this case but this time Astarion had volunteered. He'd found a recipe he liked in an old cookbook that was lying around the Waning Moon.
Unfortunately though, he had completely forgotten who the owner was previously to them. Thisobald Thorm had been most famous for all kinds of toxic concoctions but Astarion believes he has taken all of them out of the recipe before preparing the food for today.
It had smelled nice enough and Octavian as well as Aodhán and Halsin have eaten it all with gusto so it couldn't have been all that bad.
But now that their monthly family dinner had advanced a little further Astarion realizes that he must've gotten something wrong with the food.

Aodhán has sent Tav and Astarion up a treacherous mountain—right into the heart of a raging snowstorm—in search of the elusive Bláthán Boreal, a rare flower that only blooms in the coldest, harshest conditions and awakens at the faintest touch of sunlight.
It is their last hope, the final ingredient Aodhán needs to craft the potion that could finally grant Astarion the one thing he has longed for most—the ability to walk in the sun again.
