"So then stay. I'll do better, okay? I told you before. All I ask is that you stop fighting me every step of the way. That's not a hard request, right?" When Remus didn't reply, his voice hardened ever so slightly. "Right?"
"Right, right. It's... hard though."
"Can you elaborate?" He pressed more kisses into his hair.
"It hurts. You're hurting me."
"I'm helping you," Janus explained, ever so patient. "You don't know what's good for you. Tell me, love, how often do you put yourself in danger needlessly? Just for the fun of it?"
"Well- I mean, I guess you have a point- that's different though."
"Not really. You tend to put yourself in harms way just to say you can. Which I understand, of course, you can't help yourself. It's part of your role to lean into those sorts of things." He paused to adjust the blankets behind them so he could lean back and cradle Remus closer. "It's not your fault that you don't know better. But that's why I'm here. To be our sense of reason, of common sense."
