Only, she is not sober. She is just high enough to be on the edge of despair, she is lost, she is cold, she is maybe having a heart attack - and every part of her roars at the sight of him. She can feel her pupils dilating in real time; can feel the blush creeping up her cheeks, her mouth falling open slightly. Maybe she’s just imagining the air sparking between them because she has his undivided attention, but as far as she is concerned, the whole rest of the fucking world has ceased existing.

Gale shoulders sag with only relief. “My dear lady, you are by far the most extraordinary stroke of luck I’ve had in a long time.”
