Then, cutting through the quiet was a whispered phrase, nearly lost in the symphony of pyrotechnics. "Happy new year." Ah, there's a prime example, something that made Jouno's gut twist till he wanted to rip out his own intestines. Wishing a 'happy new year' to someone like him.
But, as social norms disgustingly require, he should return the favour. So, he grabbed Tecchou's face and forced it to face him, nails digging into flesh, ensuring the other's eyes were now on him. Probably. All so he could make sure his words could not just be heard through Tecchou's enamoured daze and the percussion of fireworks, but also be seen as he mouthed out each syllable. "Ha... ppy. New. Year."

Summary
Here, you bear witness to an ever odd sight, a tale never to be written in scripture. One recalling that of a clandestine meeting between two gods, one of justice, the other of cruelty, sitting atop their heavenly perch in the darkness before dawn. One exuding a golden glow, sure to bleed pure, divine ichor; the other a constant ebb of chthonic flames and sparks. Tecchou, totem of justice, merely watched as Jouno, clad in his red and grey robes, descended downwards, settling himself beside Tecchou on the floating pillar of Earth, a place shrouded from the watchful eyes that litter Takamagahara.
"Hah, seems nothing has changed since our last meeting a couple decades ago,” Jouno sneered. With a sigh he continued, “Same as always, aren't you? How boring.”

To say the hunting dogs celebrated was generous. To say they ignored it is a lie. Perhaps it was awfully sentimental for a soldier but, at some point, and though he'd never admit it for his own sake... They'd become more than coworkers. More than comrades. As close to… family as the military would allow. It was only now that the weight of such a thing dawned on him, on why connection was not just discouraged but unspeakable in their field. Loss was an everyday risk, inevitable. Bonds only served as one more thing to lose. And oh, oh how that loss could crack even the toughest of hearts.
