Summary
Slipping into Whit's End after hours and finding Connie cleaning up shop was expected. Ideal, even, as she was another solid ally. She gushed over his return and gave him a hug that made his lungs scream for help. Richard supposed he also should've expected that.
The unexpected came in the news that followed.
"Whit?" Connie frowned at his question. "Didn’t you hear? Well, of course, you wouldn't have heard. What was I thinking? Sorry, uh..." She took a deep breath, her eyes glistening for a brief moment. "Whit left."
Error. Incorrect password. System failure.
Richard blinked, trying to reset his brain and hoping he hadn't heard her right.
Or, what happens when the author tries to fill in the missing scenes from Darkness Before Dawn from Richard's first appearance in Odyssey to his discharge from the hospital. Perhaps even beyond...

Summary
“Well,” Jason said, easing the vehicle into park, “ready for this?”
Richard sucked in a breath. “I guess I have to be, huh?”
“I mean, if you’re not ready, we could always just… I don’t know, sit here for a while.”
But Richard was shaking his head. “Better to get it over with, you know?”
“Hey, just… That defense attorney is going to do his best to trap you," he reminded. "But you're smarter than you give yourself credit for. Don't let him."
Called to testify against the demons of his past, Richard Maxwell finds more than he bargained for as he wades through the dark waters of truth, justice, and what it means to truly forgive. A sequel to "Before Dawn... and After."

Summary
"I... The fever, I... I don't know how to handle it."
"Well, that's easy. Rest, ibuprofen, lots of fluids, and—"
"No, Jason, I mean—" Sucking in a breath, Richard resisted the urge to bury his face in his hands. "I don't know how to handle it. How to deal with the fact that I even have it. I don't... I'm not..."
"Can I get you anything? I think we have some cough medicine in the cupboard."
"See?" Richard said as one last cough tore through his throat. "That's what I'm talking about. You. This." He gestured to the darkened kitchen. "I don't… I'm not used to this, and I don't… Look, whenever I get sick, I take care of myself and push through it. I'm not used to this, which means I don't know how to deal with it."
Or, a game night gone wrong at the Whittaker house dredges up unresolved issues from Richard's past.

Summary
“Are you kidding?” Richard crossed his arms, leaning against the counter. “A brand new business settling in Odyssey that gives the John Avery Whittaker a bad feeling whenever he comes in contact with it? Nope, I’ve seen this before—been on the wrong side of it before—and it’s not the kind of thing I wanna fool around with again. If you’re not hip to it, then neither am I.”
“Well,” Whit said, his chuckle a little less genuine than normal, “that does make sense. I just wish everyone else could see it your way.”
Or, Richard Maxwell in Odyssey during the Novacom Saga.

Summary
"So, you back in Odyssey for good, or am I gonna be reading another missing persons ad in the paper tomorrow?"
Jason tried for a grin that flopped majorly, morphing into more of a wince. "Yeah, about that..."
"Yeah, 'about that,'" Richard mimicked. "We've spent all day not talking 'about that,' and at first, I didn't think I wanted to hear any of your excuses, but now I'm not so sure. Could be interesting."
"Richard, I'm sorry," came the defeated sigh. "I know I... I shouldn't have left like that. But with everything that happened, I—"
"Yeah, yeah." Richard shrugged. "I know, you had all that secret agent crap to deal with. Easy to see how some things might slip through the cracks."
Or, when Jason leaves Odyssey, Richard doesn't know deal. Just when he feels like he's finally coping, Jason reappears and throws a wrench into Richard's less-than-stable emotional stability.
A friendship fic rewrite of "Accidental Dilemma" and "Home Again Pt. 1 & 2."

Summary
"No, sorry, I just meant…" Richard took a breath, willing himself to dredge up old memories. For Connie. "It's hard to be the parent of a teenager all of a sudden. It's like… Well, you pretty much got no warning, right? So, you feel like you have to figure everything out right now or else you'll mess it all up."
Connie perked up. “Yeah… Yeah, that's right.”
“And you want to ask for advice, but you feel like you can’t because you have to figure this out on your own or it somehow won’t count, won’t matter.”
“Yeah! Wait, how'd you know that?”
Or, when Connie is having problems with Jules, an unlikely ally offers a bit of advice.
A Connie and Richard friendship story.

Summary
A sniffle, then an overly compensated attempt at a straight face. That good old college try at keeping the tears at bay that Richard knew well in his friend. “She broke it.”
“Who?”
“Jules.” Connie’s chuckle was wet and mirthless, inches away from being considered broken. “She smashed it. Then, she left. Richard, she… she left… and I don’t think she’s coming back.”
A sigh deflated his chest and he slipped an arm around her shoulders. “Oh, Connie…”
Following the events of "Crossing the Line," Jules' departure sparks memories of another wayward sister from long ago, and Richard does his best to comfort Connie while drowning amidst memories of Rachel.
