Lux took a deep breath and pushed forward. She knelt slightly to meet Jinx's eye level, offering a warm smile, all velvet and honey.
“I know you don’t owe me a damn thing, sugar. But if you’d just give me the chance… I’d be mighty grateful. You fix her, and I’ll owe you a song. One that ain’t for the crowd. One that’s yours.”
It wasn't much of a lie on Lux's part; the song was about the girl she was staring at right now, even if the girl didn't know it.
Jinx stared at her, lips twitching.
Then: “Damn. You are charming.”
Ezreal laughed. “Told you she was good.”
Jinx rolled her eyes, but her expression softened. “Fine. I’ll do it.”
Lux let herself breathe fully, for the first time since she walked in.
“But,” Jinx added, pointing a smudged finger directly at her, “you come by. Every day. While I work on her. No assistants. No stylists. Just you.”
Lux blinked. “Why?”
Jinx shrugged, already turning back to the workbench. “You’re the one who broke her. You sit with her while she gets better.”
Lux gave a small, amused smile. “You make that sound like therapy.”
Jinx smirked, reaching for her tools. “Kinda is.”

Lux shrugged lightly. “Everyone deserves one beautiful thing. Even Doom.”

Seraphine, the new girl, sweet, artsy, full of glittery songs, and perfect skin, sat next to Jinx in music class. Then lunch. Then gym.
They laughed. Talked. Touched.
Lux noticed every second.
It wasn’t the usual Jinx chaos. This chaos was different. Calmer. Softer. That kind of soft Jinx only showed Lux behind locked doors when she was kissing her like they were the only two people alive.
And Lux hated it.
Not because she liked Jinx.
Not because she was addicted to the high they shared.
Not because she thought about her constantly.It was because no one else was allowed to have her.
Not that smile.
Not that look.
Not even for a second.Because even if they weren’t public, even if they were pretending—Jinx was hers.
Even if it meant breaking her.

Lux blinked. “You did that for me?”
Jinx rubbed the back of her neck, then shoved her hands into her pockets. “You did so much for me,” she said, voice softer than usual, tinged with something almost shy. “Even when I didn’t know who you were, I couldn’t see you, I felt it. It felt like someone was always one step ahead, watching my back. Moving stars. Tilting fate.”
She grinned a little, eyes flicking up to meet Lux’s cosmic gaze.
“So, I figured… if I couldn’t give you starlight, I’d give you something louder. Thought blowing up an asteroid might get the message across.”
A pause.
“Also, the ownership was garbage, so… y’know. Win-win.”
For a moment, Lux said nothing. Her eyes, vast and violet, blinked once, like quasars flickering in amusement.
Then she laughed.

She’s joining spring training.

The desert air smelled like fresh-cut grass and sweat-soaked cotton, and for once, Lux was feeling hopeful.
Lux came early, three weeks ahead of the rest of the team. She’d spent the offseason reworking her swing and watching hours of her team's pitchers, including Jinx. She was ready.
Jinx might be wild, unpredictable, and infuriating, but she was also their best shot at a title. And Lux wasn’t going to let last year’s heartbreak or that strikeout define her.
New season. New mindset. She even told herself she’d try to get along with Jinx.
That lasted until their first game.

“And they won’t talk to us,” Eldred said. “They hate what we represent.”
“So you’ll represent something else,” Tianna finished. “You’ll go alone. As a diplomatic ‘liaison.’ Get their trust. Get access. If they give you something real... maybe we forget this Vault 46 disaster.”
Lux looked down at the profile. Photos of Zaun’s skyline, towering metal platforms, and rusted factories carved into rock. A wild, self-sustaining city.
And at the bottom, in bold red letters:
“MAYOR: SILCO.
TECH CONSULTANT: 'JINX' (DAUGHTER) SECURITY RISK: HIGH.”She closed the folder.
“When do I leave?”
Tianna’s eyes were steel.
“Now.”
