Summary
May 10, 1941. Nazi leader Rudolf Hess flies to Scotland to negotiate peace—or some other, quieter solution—between Germany and the United Kingdom. Instead of meeting the Duke of Hamilton as intended, he finds himself in the house of none other than Scotland himself.
What follows is a game of masks, persuasion, and pride, in which Hess slowly realizes he has entangled himself with a creature far beyond the limits he had presumed.Scotland studied him for another moment, then added, “If you want me to listen… you’re going to have to offer me something more than what I’ve already got. Because as it stands,” Alasdair continued, “you’re asking me to trust the word of a man whose side thought bombing us into the ground would make us bend.” The mention of it lingered, heavy and deliberate. “And when that didn’t work, you came here alone, hoping words might do what fire couldn't.”
The meaning was clear. “Convince me.”Series
