There was only one thing different this time. Ilya and him didn’t have plans after the game. Hadn’t had plans after any of the last 3 games against each other.
Ilya had broken it off. It needed to happen anyway, so Shane didn’t know why he felt so empty and sad without Ilya.

"They’re everywhere Ilya!" Shane yelled over the phone.
"It’s just pictures, Shane. We can say it was just a prank!" Ilya said back. He knew Shane was panicking, and Ilya was too! He just didn’t want to show it.
"Prank on who exactly? We were alone. There was no one to prank." Shane said in a flat tone. The same tone he used every time he was exhausted from dealing with Ilya or anything that annoyed him.
