Summary
When he is feeling particularly sadomasochistic, he pays Shi Qingxuan’s grave a visit. These, he remembers most distinctly.
He and the grave commune in silence: He Xuan glares, the grave is unmoved. In the third century, he glares, but he sweeps the plot of dirt too, especially when the heavens are wrapped up in one thing or another and no one else has stopped by in a while. In the fourth, he brings flowers. He doesn’t know anything about flowers. He resides over death, not the princesses of life. So he picks colorful, sprightly bouquets, ones he thinks Shi Qingxuan might’ve liked. In the fifth, he is struck by revelation: he glares with renewed intensity at the wooden marker erected over Shi Qingxuan’s grave, and he says, “Hello.”
He Xuan learns the interminable length of a lifetime.

Summary
Just like the other gods, this god hasn’t aged at all. He looks a bit different than in Shi Qingxuan’s memories. Then again, Shi Qingxuan’s instinct is to remember him as Ming Yi. He has the same black hair, black eyes, black clothes. Same strict air about him. What stands out the most is the anger Ming Yi used to wear like an inside joke, which has now calcified around the god in a way that makes Shi Qingxuan uneasy.
He shudders at the thought of the god’s anger. Partly in fear, some well-developed muscle memory from the last time he had to learn this anger for himself, partly in concern for his god. Why is he angry? Who has angered him? How is he, anyway? Has life gone easy on him? Shi Qingxuan wants— He misses—
“Oh, god,” he repeats. “Oh, god.” Like a prayer.
In death, Shi Qingxuan climbs a mountain.
