Once he even painted his nails and kept them on for a whole day -- black, an acceptable nail color for a boy going through his teenage angst. But this, the Izuku, he saw looking at himself in the dress he had mail-ordered, is his secret. The dress doesn’t quit him quite right -- it drapes where it should be tight, falls too low on his torso, but it’s still precious and he still grins a stilted smile when he looks at himself in the mirror. No one would ever know about this dress. No one would ever know how he felt.
Bakugou Katsuki is the opposite. He could probably be stealth if he wasn’t so bombastic about who he is. He doesn’t even whisper it, doesn’t just tell his friends -- he yells it out. “How the fuck am I more of a fuckin’ man than you?” “I’ve got more balls than you without even fucking having any!” He never bothers hiding. It wasn’t a major life event that did it, nothing tragic or insurmountable. Kaminari and Midoriya had, of course, noticed how Bakugou’s behavior shifted from pissy to touchy, how he avoided others more than usual, even dodging those he could normally tolerate. It was nothing new, nothing to be concerned about. Emotional constipation was pretty much part of the deal. They let him be, let him release his frustration on his own, bury himself in work.
So it’s just the two of them sitting on Kaminari’s couch that afternoon, watching something stupid on Netflix while they cuddle and hold hands. They shift into touching, caressing each other, kissing ears and nibbling on lips, but don’t go further. There’s no rush. They get to be lazy. Kaminari pets Midoriya’s hair, episode after episode, and they would have stayed like this if Bakugou hadn’t kicked open the door.
His face is a mess, his lips curled and his eyes dotted with tears. Both Midoriya and Kaminari sit up straight immediately, part and make room for him.
“What’s wrong, Kacchan?” Kaminari says, giving Bakugou space.
“It’s nothing,” he says, stupidly. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
