Mirrors are weird for them all these days, but Cibele wants to get her makeup right. She’s not aiming for anything elaborate, but she can at least make sure it looks neat.
It’s a special occasion, after all. Their first date all together—not that they’ll be calling it a date if anyone asks. People are weird enough about them just living in the same apartment. Part of her hates that going to the fanciest restaurant in town will definitely add to those rumours, but the louder part of her just doesn’t care.
They deserve something nice, after all the bullshit they’ve been through.

Summary
The Helper pushes the magazine away and buries his face in his hands. He doesn’t want to feel like this. He misses the time before all this happened, misses having the Gatekeeper to talk to, idle chats and silly conversations and discussing whatever came to mind. He misses his biggest worry being his nervous wonders about whether to tell the Nurse how he feels, instead of the lingering fear in the back of his mind that his best friend wants to hurt him, that he’ll never feel at home, that his life is in ruins and he’ll never be okay again.
He takes a deep breath, and slowly exhales.
The Helper, the Nurse, and the Gatekeeper survived Santo Berço's destruction, and learn to navigate the aftermath.

Summary
When they first sorted out sleeping arrangements, the Helper was supposed to sleep on the couch. He’s spent very little time actually there—mostly due to the Gatekeeper seeming too sick to be left on his own, or due to him begging him to stay.
Now, though, it’s the Nurse in front of him. Her face is tear-stained as she grasps his wrist tightly, fingers against his pulse point.

Summary
After they’re released from the hospital, one of the Nurse’s coworkers graciously offers to drive them home. Not that the Helper really knows where home is for him anymore.
A hotel is out of the question. The Helper’s heard enough about the outside world to know that it runs on money—something neither him nor the Gatekeeper have. But while the Collector is being dropped off with his grandfather, the Nurse has a place somewhere nearby that she is letting them stay at. At least for the moment.

Summary
The Helper stands in front of the mirror, his Ignaro form staring back. Technically he doesn’t need to be in it right now, but he’ll need to get used to it eventually, so… he’s practicing.
The eyes are maybe the strangest bit about it. They feel smaller. The familiar blackness now shrunk down and encased by other colours—brown and white.
He leans closer to the mirror and pokes at his cheek where his markings would be. Maybe if he looks close enough he’ll still be able to see the faint shadow of them—
“Why are you acting like it’s new?” The Gatekeeper says. “You’ve seen this form before.”
