There’s something infuriating about Tommy Shepherd.
There are many things infuriating about Tommy Shepherd, actually— Eli doubts he could even name them all. It’s everything Tommy does, everything about who he is. It’s the fact that he never listens to orders and drops a plan the second he feels like it. It’s the way he plays fast and loose with the law like it’s a game to him. It’s the fact that he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks, it’s the fact that he doesn’t care what anyone else thinks of him. It’s the way he stares at Kate whether she’s looking or not, gentle eyes and a lopsided smirk like she’s allowed to mean something to him. It’s the way Kate stares at him back, dark eyes half-lidded and amused, teeth digging into her grinning lips.
It’s the fact that he’s in love with Eli’s girlfriend and doesn’t even have the decency to care.
Or,
Eli doesn’t fall in love with Tommy Shepherd.
Tommy doesn’t fall in love with him back.
