The hospital room was sterile in a way that hurt. The air was refined and burned Ellen's nostrils. The conversations outside were filled with carefully chosen words to avoid upsetting patients and family alike. Even the chair she was sitting on had an air about it. As if it was plucked from a catalog, bought in a quantity over a thousand, and then placed her with an intentionality that family members who were visiting determined to stay the night would sit here and rethink that choice.
Unfortunately, there was no bulk furniture catalog that could have been prepared for Ellen.

Lycaon had spotted the shark thiren girl on his way into work. As he walked home, he noticed she hadn't moved. Her clothes were on the verge of falling apart and the only other thing she had was a doll in disrepair.
He knelt down to her height and asked, "Do you have anywhere to call home?"

"Why don't you come home with me then? I can feed you, take care of you and-"

Corin hesitates. She weighs the options in her mind, and the guilt over the mere thought of lying to them, successful or not, makes her give a slow nod.
Rina frowns.
