Horace heard a cry of pain and he looked up, his heart skipping a beat as he watched Will crumple to the ground, clearly unconscious.
“Will!” Horace shouted, stopping to watch as Evanlyn scrambled to pick up Will’s discarded bow off of the ground, watching as Skandians hurried out to where she and Will were. Behind him, he could hear Tug’s distressed whinnies, seemingly upset by the sight of his master being knocked unconscious. “Evanlyn!” he yelled, his voice breaking as the emotions of the current moment caught up to him, as he watched a Skandian grab her, holding her tight, heedless of her struggles. He could hear her cries of frustration from where he stood and he blinked back the tears pricking at the corners of his eyes.

This is a rewrite of the ending of Escape Falaise (Royal Ranger Book 5). Flanagan never lets his writing get past a certain point of intensity, and I wanted to see what might become of this story if he'd allowed it to have a much more painful arc. By general fanfiction standards, the story is not overly gruesome, but I will warn that it is more intense than what Flanagan would unusually include. There is depiction of torture and some medical action (mostly blood and fearful atmosphere type stuff). Please leave comments or reviews, all feedback is welcome. This is a finished work.
