Summary
Bruce forces himself to look in the mirror to shave, brush his hair, and use makeup to skillfully hide bruises and scars from vigilantism. Once he's done the feeling of *wrongwrongwrong* has overwhelmed him so he has to look away from the mirror. He's not sure why he thinks there's something wrong. He's conventionally handsome- that word makes his skin crawl- and everyone loves Brucie.
But why does he want to puke every time someone compliments him for being a handsome strong man?
Why does he sometimes wish his makeup wasn't just concealer and used to hide scars but instead something fun and bright, or something similar to what his mom used to use? Her makeup still sits in the Master Bedroom on the vanity and it tempts him every time he visits his parents' old bedroom; he's refused to clear it out and move into it for over 30 years.
Why does he keep finding himself not just absently looking at his mother's old jewelry but sometimes wearing it in secret before putting it away again before Alfred or someone else can catch him? Surely that's just because he misses her, right?

My head canon of what happened in Harvey's mind when he decided to unleash his dark side in S01E13. Harvey's character setting is based on the CW "Gotham Knights", and the DC comic "The Eye of the Beholder".
Closing his eyes and listening to himself humming Mozart's Fantasia in D Minor, Harvey felt that Duela's anxious and desperate call seemed to be getting farther and farther away from him, and the whole world was spinning and dragging him into the bottomless darkness-- the basement of his brain which was resembled to his former D.A.'s office.
