Perhaps Winter would finally choose to break his wiry body with illness or he would catch an unfortunate stray battle axe.
Yet here he was, 21, about to die in the wrong place (not a bad age to reach in the Archipelago when you’re Hiccup Haddock, let's be honest).But that was the thing wasn’t it? Hiccup made plenty of marks all in the wrong places.
What if one of those marks was in the future? On one unsuspecting spirit’s affections?

When Berk is attacked by dragons on an early morning, Hiccup attempts to shoot down what looks to be a Night Fury who was attacking alongside the raid, but while he did shoot it down and saw it go down to the forest, when he goes to find it, instead, he finds a Light Fury. And with his own decision, Hiccup let's the dragon go despite the chance he had after all the neglect he's felt his whole life. But when he finds her again near a grove, without a tailfin and in need of help, Hiccup decides to help it, and from there, they grow a bond unlike any other dragon and human has ever had before.

“Who…” The girl began, her voice a sharp, slightly squeaky intake of breath. She was tiny, Hiccup noted in a split-second assessment, standing with a kind of stiff, unearned confidence. Blond, tiny, perfect dragon food, a cynical, protective corner of his mind registered, already assessing her as a threat—or a potential casualty. She looked completely out of place against the backdrop of raw, dangerous nature and the immediate, deadly confrontation unfolding
The woman, Lady Valka, slowly turned from the Light Fury, Lifuri, to face the unexpected voice. Her gentle stance softened further, her outstretched hand, moments before soothing the nervous dragon, now dropping completely as her intense blue eyes landed on the figure silhouetted against the open sky.
She studied the man, taking in his slight build, his unusual fur clothing, and, most importantly, the striking resemblance to a ghost from her past. He was a grown man now, not a babe, but the features were undeniable. A long, shuddering breath pulled into her chest, as if she were breathing in a forgotten memory.

Hiccup has noticed that many things changed, the dragons hidden and forgotten to the young, buildings standing longer, and new young running around. But one thing he noticed hasn't changed, was him. It was like he was stuck, he didn't seem to age, not getting taller or getting gray hairs like all of his friends. Seeing so many once familiar faces grow old and disappear he was tired, no one to remember their shared adventures, no one to know dragons were real anymore. So when his great grandchildren were grown up, he left Berk. He sailed to the Hidden world, living with found brother, Toothless. Living in the Hidden World's shadow for centuries to come.
Or Hiccup gains immortality/shares Toothless's life span and lives in the Hidden world when all the people he knew and still believe dragons exists were all gone. A thousand years or so later when dragons were all just myths and legends a certain winter spirit finds a Light Fury, what could go wrong with a spirit making friends with a dragon?

Consequently, Jack is tasked with finding the Guardians and defeating Pitch, all while surviving the Dragon Hunters, dragons in general, and trying to keep his identity, as not only a spirit but also a vigilante, a secret from some Dragon Riders who just can't seem to let him go. Jack can't seem to let them go either...
Then there's Hiccup.
After an unexpected series of events, Hiccup finds out Dagur is back and out for revenge. So, he and the Dragon Riders head out to find, and capture him. Again.
He figures the added side opportunities to unlock new lands and dragons is just that, side opportunities. Turns out he'll unlock much more than measly lands and dragons.
Also, what kind of name is "The American Colonies." And what does "fuck" mean because his foreigner friend keeps muttering it in stressful situations.
