Alex kicked George out, telling him that it just wouldn’t work anymore. George didn’t know how to feel. There had been the initial shock, sadness. He'd cried for three days in his apartment in Monaco, wishing he was numb, but feeling everything nonetheless. At the start, every time he thought about Alex it was like barbed wire poking into his skin, slicing him open, leaving the same wounds over and over.

And Alex is not normal. He would like to be. He promises himself that he will be, and he makes a whole New Year’s Resolution, or whatever, about it. But, he’s not. Oh, God, he’s not. It takes one picture of Logan, grinning on the plane back to England, and one interaction with him at the Williams headquarters where Logan bumped his head into Alex’s shoulder as they walked past each other. Okay, Alex thinks, feeling his shoulder burn from where Logan had nudged him, still seeing the way Logan had grinned back at him when Alex turned in surprise. Okay, Alex thinks again, willing himself to not scream or burst into flames on the spot.
I’m so normal, Alex repeats wildly in his head, mildly hyperventilating, I’m so fucking normal.
(Alexander Albon is incredibly normal about everything. Including, and especially, his Formula One teammate, Logan Hunter Sargeant. He promises.)

It hurt at first, but now the pain is fading, giving way to a very welcome.. sort of… numbness. I often thought about what dying would feel like, more than I’d like to admit, but as expected, it was unlike anything I’d ever imagined. It felt heavy at first, as I’m sure my heart fought to pump blood around my body, to make my chest heave with breaths for air. And then, all at once, a strange disconnect- like the pressure on my chest was always there. For a moment everything I’ve ever known is slipping away, and I worry for a bit, then it passes.
I wonder what it would feel like to die somewhere nicer. Somewhere open. Maybe the soft caress of the summer breeze would take my last breaths with it. Or maybe it would be so disappointed that it wouldn’t even touch me.
