Summary
Sometimes, they'd shower together in the dilapidated buildings they came across (the ones with working water, obviously) because they couldn't bear to back at camp, with how noisy it can be.
They'd watch as it churned out soggy mud and murky, mushy ash, and how it progressed into finer, thinner water.
They'd sit under it, the stench of blood, dirt, grime, whatever wayward stains left on their clothing washing away. The panging, looming sense of guilt never left him.
He didn't know if the same was true for his commander. (Could he say he didn't think he had any guilt to wash away?)
