I just knew that there was way too much space for there to not be a head canon about Midas and Ravinger being estranged lovers. This takes place prior to the events of the books, before Midas could commit the more heinous abuse against Auren, and before Slade knows the extent of Auren's captivity.

Spoilers for the books up through Glow.
Takes place sometime after leaving Drollard Village, before Auren is forcibly taken to the Conflux. Basically, I was processing something at the same time I read these books, and that resulted in this short story.
Auren wakes up into a panic attack and is comforted by Slade as the impact of trauma weighs on her. Healing is not linear, but those who love you can hold space for you while you figure it out.
Maybe I will write a second chapter or companion story that leans more into the fluffier territory in the future. For now, enjoy and take care of yourself. <3 -
