Thorin sighs and his hand finally pulls away from Bilbo’s hair.Bilbo stares at his face and only just manages not to whine at the loss of warmth. (“It was the injury talking. Not me” he tells himself) close. Too close.
Then the words register and the hobbit sputters because how dare Thorin act as if Bilbo was being unreasonable.
“You left me.” The face Thorin makes is almost effective enough to make Bilbo cower.
“You left, Bilbo. In the dead of night. For food.”
“I was hungry.” Bilbo does what he never thought he’d be able to without thinking of his father’s disappointed eyebrow— he grumbles.
“I would’ve come if you had asked.” Thorin answers gruffly. This time he actually sounds offended. Thorin Oakenshield. Offended because Bilbo did not allow him to partake in a side quest for midnight snacks.

"Hobbits." Thorin said quietly. His father, and future King Under the Mountain, turned around to look at his eldest son. There was a curious light in the blue of his eyes that greatly reminded Thraín of a time long ago; from when he had first married the Lady Frís.
"What?" He asked.
"They're called hobbits, father. The halflings are known to the wizard. Our friend, Tharkûn, appears to be the cause of this mischief and had prompted the Bagginses to move abroad. To satisfy some lost inspiration as I was told."
"The Bagginses! Tell me, who is it that you spoke with, Thorin. Are you also on first-name terms with these visitors from the west?"
Thorin brought his teeth together, he still spoke too much and often, a poor habit that his young nephews were beginning to pick up. His eyes were drawn towards the south-side barracks, where the city of Dale sat in the distance; he allowed his mind to wander to the curly-haired, bright-eyed fellow that had shouted at him earlier.
"Aye... There was an incident, with the son."

The dwarves aren't very happy about this development, but reluctantly agree to let her join for at least the beginning of their quest.
Traveling all across Middle-Earth and slowly growing closer to her new companions despite the animosity between elves and dwarves, Húniel will need to use all of her skills to keep them all safe in a slowly darkening world. She will happily face any foe that comes on their path, but soon finds something she would much rather flee from:

Bilbo Baggins gets separated from his friends in the goblin tunnels beneath the Misty Mountains, when he meets Lynessa Flamehair; a chatty, cheerful, and probably quite insane girl who sings odd songs, talks in a peculiar way, carries a magical satchel that gives her "what she needs, not necessarily what she wants"... and is all too happy to help Bilbo escape rhe mountains and find his friends again.
The Company’s quest is about to take a very different turn than anyone could have foreseen.
Bilbo has many questions he’s not sure there are answers to. Gandalf has many plans he won’t talk about. Thorin has many suspicions he’s all too willing to talk about. Bofur has a new flute. And Lynessa has many secrets… the kind that can fly and breathe fire.
Oh, and there’s this gold ring Bilbo picked up in the goblin tunnels as well. But that’s probably not important.
A canon-divergent AU based mainly on Tolkien’s original book, but with some aspects from the movies. (Yes, the eagles talk in this one.)
