Hodgins didn't really like Brennan's new assistant too much. He's annoying, and arrogant, and rude, and he's had enough of it. He might run his mouth a little too much though, so in an attempt to apologize to the young anthropologist, he learns maybe he should give him a chance.
This is based on Hodgins and Zack's interactions in the flashback episode and how they didn't seem to get along very well at first.
