I wanted to see you, of course.
It was almost to the corner of the room, where the wall with the bathroom door intersected the wall with the cabin door. I hadn’t moved except to follow it with my featureless face. Its brow furrowed, its shoulders rising and falling just slightly faster than baseline. “Why?”
I assumed it only meant why now, because this situation at large wasn’t new for it. It had made my drone’s acquaintance many times before, and in far more abrupt circumstances than this. I tilted my head at it. I have new equipment to test.
It stopped in its gradual journey along the wall. I would never get enough of its dark, dark eyes gone wide with shock. “ART, no.”

It had been 46 corporate standard cycles since the first time ART had performed what we had been calling routine maintenance on me, and I was no closer to being ready to acknowledge the schedule proposal or the hundreds of articles, surveys, and heavily-redacted sexual education modules it kept sending me.
