    Summary

Shane is 37 weeks along with their fraternal twins. He’s uncomfortable, exhausted, moody, and ready to be fucking done with being pregnant. This is, however, their last week alone as a couple, and Ilya is fully intending to try and lift his spirits by bringing him on a babymoon at the cottage.

What he didn’t intend to do was cut their babymoon short by accidentally fucking his husband into labor, but things didn’t typically go as planned for them, did they?

He could deal with not skating. He could cope with not being able to pick up Lev and hold him tight in his arms, letting his baby sit on his bump as he rocked him back and forth. Fuck, he might have been able to deal with no sex until the twins were born.

But bed rest, where he can't do anything at all?

Six weeks of bed rest stand between Shane and the birth of their twins. Which means no cottage, no last adventures with his and Ilya's toddler son, and no camp. And if Shane can't leave the house, Ilya will do whatever he can to make his husband smile a little bit.

Still, there’s something that sticks in his chest about all of this, feeling like somehow, he’s failed. Baby should have turned on her own by now. What is he doing wrong? Everything else about the pregnancy so far has been textbook. He’s done everything right- his diet, his exercise routine, prenatal yoga, Lamaze class, protein shakes, oil massages-

Seriously, he's done every single thing the pregnancy books advised him to do. He hasn’t missed a single one.

Yet, somehow, he’s failed at this. And this is pretty fucking important. If she’s not head down, he can’t safely deliver her. And if he can’t do that-

    Christ.

Shane exhales again, rubbing his hands deliberately over the aching stretch of skin on his belly. He pushes against her stubborn little foot, low on his side.

“Why don’t you wanna flip, little girl?” he asks softly, brows furrowed. “I did the stupid elephant walk and I burned moxa at my feet. I’ve done the stretches, I let your dad massage my belly, I’ve tried everything. What am I doing wrong, hm?”

“You all good, Hollander?” Wiebe asks, startling him as he turns his head to see their coach standing beside the bench.

“Fine, coach,” he huffs out his reply, a little embarrassed at how out of breath he is. “Just taking a quick break.”

“You know, you can sit out practice?”

“I know, you’ve been telling me for months.”

“Well, you’re gettin’ there, kid. That baby looks about ready to score a hat trick. I’m thinking you should probably start taking it easy. When’s your due date again?”

Shane’s eyes darken, lips thinning. “Not until next week.”

“Next week?” Wiebe looks surprised by this. “What the hell are you even still doing here, Hollander?”

    Summary

Shane Hollander liked rules. Rules meant structure, control in a world where there was usually so little. He lived by the little if-then statements he built in his head to make the world make sense. They served him well, taught him how to navigate this mysterious rulebook of life that everyone but him somehow understood.

There was comfort in routine. His left skate always went on before his right. He still wore the same nightshirt he’d had since he was nineteen, this raggedy blue thing that now hung off him like a crop-top, but it was soft and light and he couldn’t bear to throw it out. Two eggs and a vegetable smoothie for breakfast. Chicken and broccoli for lunch, salmon and green beans for dinner. Only a beer after a special event, at most five ginger ales a month.

An exploration of Shane's eating disorder.
