[“And then, we can go home?” Jack asked eagerly, jumping up from his place on the couch. “I’m worried about my aquarium.”
As if Cas wouldn’t feed Jack’s fish while he was away. Still, Dean looped one of his arms around Jack’s shoulders, feeling the same homesickness for the bunker and his bed and his own frickin' year. “Yeah, Kid," he said, catching eyes with first his brother and then his husband. "And then we go home.”]

Summary
When Sam finds Dean after the Empty, after everything, there is blood on his brother’s face. A handprint laid across his cheek in what should be reminiscent of their father’s brutal touch but only appears as reverence, as worship. Dean is in the middle of the dungeon, his hands gripping his thighs so tightly Sam knows they’ll be bruised, and he is on his knees. He looks like he’s praying.
To what, Sam will never understand.

[The first time Cas kisses Dean, it’s slow and soft Dean cries so hard he has to pull away, clutching Cas’s face like a life line. He can’t say it. A hand wraps around his throat and cuts him off every time he tries. He can tend a child for this man, kill god for this man, kill himself for this man, but he can’t say it.
Cas watches Dean’s soul and hears him just fine.]

Summary
Dean thesis on cooking, gender, softness, and breaking the cycles of abuse.
Dean and Jack bake a birthday cake. Dean reflects on the past and all the ways John tried to get him to cut the different "wrong" parts of him out. With careful hands, he's stitching up those old wounds.

This fic is so real, and very relatable. Idk...
[Rhonda lays him down on the bed, on top of soft silky sheets. She takes him apart slow, mouthing at pink panties, slipping them to the side to take him out, holding him in the circle of her fist as her tongue and lips work to draw soft sounds out of him he never knew he could make.
It’s never been like this before. Because this part of him has never been there before when he’s with other people.
She calls him pretty and gorgeous and sweetheart and darlin’. He preens at the attention and his whole body flushes pink to match now-ruined panties.
The next time John tells him to Cut that shit out, after a hunt gone wrong that left Dean too emotional, too soft, Dean remembers that person in the mirror. The soft shimmering pink of his heart. He’ll keep pretending for John and the world, but he won’t cut that out. Not anymore. ]

Summary
“I can’t look at him – I can’t look at Jack because when I do, I don’t just see Cas. I see her.”
Sam looks a couple inches closer to walking out. Like a fog has cleared and the weight of expectation has been lifted off his shoulders. Like he’s given up.
His voice is as light as it is sharp, “A girl, Dean? You’re actually going to try and make this about a girl?”
Shame fills Dean’s lungs until his ears ring and he chokes on the weight of the words clawing their way up his throat. He’s going under, attempting to hold back a tsunami with a bucket while his little brother watches with an indifference more painful than his derision.
When he speaks, Dean pitches his voice low in an attempt to disguise the raw edge it has taken on, as if the name had been physically torn from him, entirely unbidden.
“Emma.”
Or
Between 13.04 The Big Empty and 13.05 Advanced Thanatology. Four thousand canon compliant words of Dean Winchester having a breakdown over his total inability to reconcile the fact that the half-human son of Satan himself is just a little boy who needs saving, with the fact that Dean couldn’t save, wasn’t enough to save, his own half-human daughter.

Now this will hurt more if Jack heard all of this, Dean sees two people he failed in him. Lordddd
[After what is either several seconds or several hours, Sam speaks, and he’s the twelve year old boy in Dean’s memories again, full of grief and pain,
“I’m sorry, Dean. God, I am so fucking sorry. ”
Dean looks up properly then, and he knows his total confusion is written plainly across his features. Sam almost flinches from it, guilt lining his face.
“You’re right. They’re not different. They’re the same, and she was worth saving, too.”
The ground beneath Dean falls away, failure gnawing at his ribs and clawing through him from the inside out, as Sam turns to face him, “But Dean - Dean you’ve got to listen to me here. Look at me . It’s not your fault. I made that call, and I was wrong . We had just lost Cas, and - and I was so fucking worried about you. You had been making decisions that weren’t like you at all, and I thought when you didn’t just kill her, God , Dean, I thought you were just being reckless because you didn’t care anymore.” ]

[It’s nice to be around someone who isn’t afraid of his powers, even if it’s a little demanding to be treated like a human heating pad.
And if he calls upon the power of the fire and the flame, warming his skin enough to dry Robert’s clothes without actually catching anything on fire, it's just because he didn’t want to deal with being dripped on all night. That’s all.
“What’s happening over here?” Prism’s voice draws Flambae away from where he’s staring down at their dispatcher.
“The bitch can’t hold his alcohol,” he dismisses.
“Well, if he’s not going to drink it,” Prism says, snatching Robert’s glass and draining it in one fell swoop, “I’m not letting it go to waste.” She stares at Robert for a few moments before speaking again. “Y’know, he’s kinda cute like this, when he can’t yell at us for not doing our jobs right. Like that dog of his.”
“Nah,” Flambae disagrees. “The sass is part of the charm.” He goes to take a sip of his drink and realizes it’s empty. He grimaces and puts the glass back down again.]
