Summary
Work had turned him into something of a spoiled brat. It was embarrassing, the kinds of fits he would throw when he got home after a long day. He always felt like a kid, but the way he'd be possessed with some kind of meltdown, throwing things around his house, or crying on the floor until his face was covered in tears and snot, only rubbed the fact in further. Then it had expanded through the rest of his life, infecting every relationship like some kind of disease. His boss would criticize him too harshly, and he'd have to wipe away tears with the back of his hand. His coworkers got annoyed he couldn't keep up, and it was like being rejected by his dad all over again. Papers would pile up, and he'd end up sucking his thumb subconsciously, wondering if this all could have been avoided if he'd tried harder.
He wasn't going back there. It was as comforting of a thought as it was scary. He'd still had doubt as he'd made up his mind before all this, though he was pretty certain he'd be fired before he could ever voice his urge to quit. Now that it had been weeks though, maybe months, there was no way they'd take him back. And it couldn't really be his fault if some weird game show kidnapped him, right?

The room was still dark as Mikoto was startled awake, heart thudding in his ears and soaked in a cold sweat. It wasn't uncommon for him to have nightmares, or even to have found himself sleep walking and laying in the bathtub, but it never got any less disorienting. He felt younger than he was. His bedroom looked like someone else's, even if he knew better. He found himself expecting the weight of someone on his bed, or the creak of a door, the blinking red light of a camera, a cold touch.
Nothing came.

“Well, cheers to you then. That's a good man, looking after the women in his life,” one of them said, holding out his glass.
“Ha. Thanks.” Mikoto picked up his own sake, letting them clink together before he drank it down. It didn't taste quite right, ever so slightly off, which was the first sign of many that he'd made a grave error somewhere along the line. It hadn't hit for now though, dismissed with another bite of his dinner as he continued on none the wiser.

Summary
She'd only been gone a few minutes, off to get some water, but the way Mikoto looked when she opened the door very quickly reminded her of what she had been supposed to be doing in the first place. She tensed herself, ready to attack or be attacked, glass of water be damned, but the way he looked at her… This was someone else. He had been frowning quite intensely, tugging at his hair in that way he was wont to do whenever he got particularly overwhelmed, rocking steadily and stiffly. The look in his eyes was one of fear though, not anger. His posture changed entirely as soon as he saw her, trying to act natural even with that petrified expression on his face and the way he still naturally curled into himself. He almost looked like a frightened child.

This is ridiculous. Kim is fine. He's in his room at the Whirling, and is probably sound asleep. Are prophetic dreams even real?
LOGIC: No.
INLAND EMPIRE: Yes.
Harry tosses and turns for what feels like hours (twenty minutes). It's impossible to go back to sleep. He's restless, he's anxious, and he's still very sweaty.
DRAMA: You won't be able to rest until you see Kim. Even if you just knock on his door and hear his voice telling you to go back to bed, that would be enough.
ELECTROCHEMISTRY: You could also drink yourself to sleep. That would work just as well.
VOLITION: Well, it’s one or the other. You can’t get drunk and bother Kim after hours.
It's a bad idea, Harry thinks, even as he gets dressed.
