Or, Cars backfiring sound a lot like gunshots, and Claire Fitzroy is way too familiar with gunshots. Caring for someone is nothing like killing for them, but Six is trying is best.

“Colt Seavers?”
A woman’s voice with a thick accent greets him as soon as he picks up the call from an unknown number. He’s in the kitchen, leaning on the kitchen counter with food ingredients spread out on the counter, waiting to be cooked. Jody, his fiancée, is sitting across from him on a high stool. She has her laptop on as she is working on the script of her new film.
“Yes,” he answers. His eyes met with Jody’s, who raised her eyebrows. “This is he.”
“Hi, Colt Seavers. My name is Eva Stratt.” The woman sounded so monotone from the other, it is as if he is talking with a machine. “Are you the brother of Ryland Seavers?”

Summary
The silence stretches for a while, with Colt staring at her for most of it and Eva staring back, but eventually he asks another question: “… Is that why you’re here? You wanna see him?”
A spark of something lights up in her chest.
“Are you saying the rumors are true?” She tries not to sound so eager.
Colt’s eyes leave hers and trail back to the counter, where the cashier and Kazu look over at them curiously. Kazu tilts her head, shrugging minutely as if to say, your choice. The ease in communication despite the language barrier is not lost on Eva. She wonders if this is Colt’s true first time here, like she suspects.
And so, she thinks, Colt chooses. “… As true as it gets, I think.” He shrugs, as if he did not just confirm time travel and placed it firmly on her greedy, greedy palms. “I come here sometimes. When I miss him.” He’s back to staring at her intently. “Do you?”
Eva blinks. Once, then twice, just to stall for time.
“I do.” Eva confesses quietly. “I didn’t think I would.”
(OR: there’s a rumor about a time-traveling café in tokyo. eva stratt wishes to have one more coffee with ryland grace.)
