Summary
Edmund Birchley is the prodigal son of a railroad investor, reluctantly returning home from a summer of college celebrations and city debauchery when his cousin writes to him about his father's declining health. It wasn't even a true escape for as soon as he left, he longed for the comfort and warmth he left at his Master's home. He had been pampered and well cared for. He surely had less reason to run than he used to.

Thus it is of necessity that he has a form of magical protection at his side.Sirius is an escaped convict who needs to stay in hiding, Lupin unfortunately provides risks due to the full moon, and the rest of the order is far too busy in their own ordeals. The only one who could afford to physically protect the boy and keep his cover was Severus Snape himself. The professor thinks of the child as insufferable and arrogant, but his view slowly shifts as he uncovers the secrets of Harry’s home life and the horrors beyond it.

Harry spends his summer doing grueling tasks and trying his best to avoid a beating. He can barely sleep and yet despite all this, nothing compares to the appointments he's forced to attend throughout his stay. They see his existence as an establishment of evil and therefore have seen it fit to burn such evil out of him. Harry had genuinely believed his summer couldn’t get any worse, and yet it does. Or so he thought..

Summary
