One arm scoops over Lan Wangji’s shoulder to hold on, and Wei Wuxian bats his eyes. “Shijie would come whenever there was a bad storm, after Jiang Cheng told her I cried during them. And she would sit and rock me until I was smiling again… Will you hold me during the storm, Lan Zhan?”
“I am holding you,” Lan Wangji says. His voice is not a whisper, nor is it loud. It thrums in Wei Wuxian’s ear like a perfectly plucked guqin string. His spirit rests as Lan Wangji moves a hand back down his bare back again.
His lips press to Lan Wangji’s warm throat and speak against the pulse held there. “I’m holding you back!” He squeezes his arm tighter around Lan Wangji’s shoulder to make his point.
After a few seconds, Lan Wangji says, “I once disliked storms as well.”
That surprises Wei Wuxian. “Hanguang-Jun was afraid of thunder?” He laughs. “No way. I don’t believe that.”
“Mn, it’s true.”

“...Well, so are you,” Feng Xin says, turning a corner. “Having trouble sleeping again?”
Mu Qing stiffens. “...Again?”
“You were never that good at hiding signs of insomnia,” Feng Xin says, like it’s the easiest thing in the world. As if Mu Qing wouldn’t have staked his life on the fact that Feng Xin and Xie Lian knew nothing at all about him and how he felt. As if it didn’t mean anything—and, he realizes, an uncomfortable feeling growling in his gut, that he wants it to mean something, but it couldn’t have, since they had noticed, and never said anything.
