    I, Aysel Bardin, failed Threshing.

It was almost two years ago now, but the jury’s still out on whether it was worth it.

I did first-year—all of the politics, death, idiots, dragons—twice. Being joined by the children of the rebellion was the only reason I made it through the second time, which means I should be grateful for the unforeseen variable that was Xaden Riorson. The variable that turned distance into loyalty, logic into want, control into chaos, and survival into a group project nobody asked for. The team effort worked for us last year—but we have two more to go, and I can already see where the equation ends.

I've done the math. Falling for Xaden Riorson will ruin everything—including me. I know better.

Unfortunately, knowing better has never quite managed to stop me.

    Summary

Newly appointed to the rank of Wingleader, Xaden Riorson only has one goal for his third and final year at Basgiath: Get all the marked ones bonded and graduated so they might stand a fighting chance against the true evil lurking at Navarre’s borders. The only problem is that Violet Sorrengail, his enemy’s youngest daughter, has also joined the Rider’s Quadrant this year. He doesn’t know why she’s here, what her plans are, or if he can trust her. All he knows is that he can’t seem to stay away.

This is a rewrite of my previous fic “The Wingleader – Xaden’s POV”. It’s a Fourth Wing retelling from Xaden’s POV with new Iron Flame updates. It follows the dialogue and chapter timeline from Fourth Wing with my own interpretations and theories of Xaden’s actions and feelings.

Do not read if you haven’t finished both FW AND IF - major spoilers from BOTH books throughout!

All rights and characters belong to Rebecca Yarros.

    Summary

In the kingdom of Elfhame, where shadows whisper secrets and power is a deadly game, Lilia has always stood out for one thing: she is human. Raised among the Folk, she learned early that strength is not just a matter of swords and poison, but also of will and words. She seeks neither glory nor revenge, but just a place where she can exist without having to fight for every breath.

Beside her is Jude, her dearest friend, who always seems one step ahead in understanding the ruthless rules of the fairy court. But Jude has her secrets, like the way his gaze lingers too long on Nicasia, the proud princess of the sea.

And then there is Cardan, a prince with an indolent air and a poisonous smile. He is everything Lilia despises: effortlessly cruel, frivolous by nature, and, above all, a problem she does not want to face. And yet, by a twist of fate, their paths continue to intertwine.

Lilia knows that challenging the faeries is dangerous. But challenging Cardan? That could be an even bigger mistake.

    Summary

    I, Aysel Bardin, failed Threshing.

Entering the Rider's Quadrant wasn't about glory—it was about holding onto the only scrap of family I had left. Obviously, when both of your parents are dead and your sister is on the front lines, the logical path is eighteen inches of stone and a two-hundred foot drop to certain death. I thrived. But three months, a hundred and forty-four dragons, and one godsforsaken valley later, I'm reminded of how this world actually works.

There's no choice but to do it again—politics, death, idiots, dragons—this time beside the children of the rebellion. They're as dangerous to the quadrant as it is to them, though they can't be deadly if they're on my squad. Codex is supposed to be clear about things like that.

But I miss a variable. One variable that somehow turns distance into loyalty, logic into want, control into chaos, and survival into a group project nobody asked for. After that, the math just stops working.

Codex says you can't kill your squadmate. Codex never took “falling for Xaden Riorson will ruin everything—including you” into account.
