He was joking. Denki knew he was joking. Right? Of course he was. That was just his personality. He was like that with everyone. The angry blonde was always saying things he didn’t mean. And he didn’t mean it. Did he? Or was he serious? Did he really think of Kaminari that way? The words might have been true, but it felt so much worse hearing them from the very person Denki wanted to see him differently. But he was joking. Was he? He had to be. Because it was funny. So Denki smiled. Because it was funny. And it didn’t hurt.

Denki Kaminari knows he's a failure. Everyone knows it. Even, unfortunately, a certain explosive hero-in-training whom Denki has more-than-friendly feelings for. But when his own stupidity ends up turning him victim to a harmful quirk, he's forced to either push away his thoughts (and with them the people he needs most), or deal with the reality that his insecurities are the only things keeping him from happiness.
