Draco peeked through the ornamental grasses bursting out of the top of the bouquet as he approached her small stoop. He couldn’t see where he was going, and thus there was a geospatial disagreement between his left foot and the top step, and in a show of solidarity, Draco’s body entered into a geospatial disagreement with the rest of the stoop, in this order:
1. His eye smashed into Granger’s doorknob;
2. His head smashed into Granger’s door;
3. His knee nearly smashed Granger’s cat;
4. Granger’s cat’s teeth and claws pierced Draco’s skin;
5. The bouquet, having caused all of this, evaded responsibility by removing itself from the situation entirely, flying out of his arms and landing in some undetermined location.

Summary
The ball had been underway for about an hour before he caught his first glimpse of her. He was off to the side, chatting with his parents and Astoria, who was preening under all of the attention she had received as the newly announced, future Mrs. Draco Malfoy. Granger was standing across the dancefloor, with her back to him, engaged in conversation with Potter and some higher-up from the Ministry, her wild curls making her instantly recognizable. She was wearing a golden evening dress – like the Gryffindor queen that she was – a Muggle fashion that showcased her curves. Even from behind, without seeing her face, she was practically stopping his heart she was so gorgeous. And then she turned around and he thought his heart might have actually stopped for a moment.
Granger was pregnant.
Granger was noticeably pregnant. Probably around five months pregnant. Which meant that she had been pregnant the night that they had ended things, three months ago. The night that she had confirmed that she was exclusively sleeping with him, and had been exclusive with him for the preceding several years.
Granger was pregnant, with his child.

“I wonder who will be judging you today,” her owner muttered, taking out a handkerchief and patting his forehead.
Hermione’s eyes wandered around the space and saw a few judges already out and about. Because there were so many pets, the show had numerous judges examining each and every one. She could tell who was a judge simply by their all-black ensemble and white leather gloves.
A judge finally made eye contact with her owner and headed toward them. Hermione immediately straightened.
