Summary
In the aftermath of the Rebellion, King Robert gives the North the lands of the Gift as compensation for the losses the kingdom took.
Seeing it as a opportunity to keep his promise to his sister, the Warden of the North decides to make his perceived bastard son, Jon Snow, the lord of Queenscrown. Thereby, keeping him safe and as far away from the capital as possible, whilst allowing him to become his own man.
Being given an opportunity that he never expected, Jon throws himself into the task of becoming a lord that his father could be proud of, changing the North and the entire realm forever.

And, when he was feeling particularly skeptical of that decision, he chose it whenever he pulled up the standing discretionary medical discharge that could get him out of the UNSC honorably and with all of his benefits intact at any time.

As the Spartan saluted cheekily and strode away, Lord Hood fastened his safety restraint. The Marine general in the jump seat on the gun deck could be heard doing the same with an annoyed huff.

"Yes, Admiral?" Lasky asked innocently.
